A lovely and unusual piece by William Hornby, appears to be hallmarked for London 1898 which would make it one of his earliest pieces. The handle appears to be an opaque glass or crystal and is mounted with a snake. The blade is gilded over a thin layer of copper on sterling silver. Condition: Overall good, slight wear to the gilt and some gentle knocks to blade. Date letter is part rubbed/unclear but almost certainly the 1898'e'.Snake has some rotation on the handle when'pushed', but not about to fall off. Size: 15.5cm (6.2 inch) Length.
