He studied at Xavier University and the Cincinnati Art Academy where he was a student of Frank Duvenek. Best-known for his work as a decorator for the famous Rookwood Pottery (where he was, for 52 years, one of its most celebrated artists), Hurley was also prolific in the area of dry-point etching, contributing articles and inventions in addition to numerous works depicting a wide variety of scenes and events found mostly around Cincinnati. He published the bulk of these in a series of 8 monographs still available in reprint editions.
His work has been seen at the Cincinnati Museum of Art, the Corcoran Gallery and Chicago Art Institute, among others, and is still highly viable and widely traded in commercial venues. Thank you in advance for considering this outstanding sculptural piece by E.
