Beautiful George III solid silver skewer length 27 cm and weight 59 grams. Very fine condition for age, very straight, no significant damage. Assayed in London in 1788 in the reign of George III with the crowned lion , the letter "n" for 1788 and the prestigious makers mark of the capital letters WS in an oval for the prestigious silversmith William Sumner.
William Sumner I was apprenticed to Thomas Chawner making him part of the famous Chawner company. William Sumner I and Richard Crossley entered their first mark on 1st May 1775 and other marks up until 5/6th April 1782 when they both ented marks of their own. William entering his mark as a plate worker. He is believed to have died 18th March 1807.
