Up for your consideration is this Victorian/Art Nouveau bronze letter opener. Signed Franz Peleschka and dated 1906 this letter opener measures a little shy of 12 in length and is 1 1/2lbs in weight.
The form is a half nude women entwined with a snake drinking from a dish which she holds in her hand. The piece is beautiful and has a patina commensurate with it's age. The tip has a little wear perhaps being used aggressively but nothing that distracts from the piece or effects it's function. Franz Peleschka was an Austrian Sculptor who came from a middle class environment. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna where he was a student of Edmund Von Hellmer.
His artistic mediums included alabaster, bronze and ivory and much of his work was created after 1900. He was a member of the Reich Association of Fine Arts in Germany. This is a truly unique piece that you will be happy to own, hold and use.
