German Hunting dagger desk ornament + letter opener Brieföffner Hirschfänger

This is an absolutely stunning desk ornament from , it is made from a full size German hunting dagger or Hirschfänger handle of highest quality. The staghorn grip has a pommel crowned with an acorn finial and two further acorns on the front , sadly the third is missing (spares are available on the internet) , the crossguard is a rare version with modelled hunting dog`s heads and in the centre I think is a fox or another hound. On the clamshell is a hunting hound with a gamebird in its mouth which again was a delux model of hunting cutlass.

This is mounted by a very short piece of original blade upon a piece of black and white grained marble which has two small mounts on which sits a letter opener or Brieföffner of a miniature German hunting dagger. This miniature has an etched blade showing various hunting scenes and the handles and the mounts on the marble base appear to be silver plated. Desk ornament Stands 22cm tall.
