Here on offer is a rare antique Victorian letter opener and quill cutter. Thomas Turner established the business at the Suffolk Works, Sheffield in 1803. Thomas Turner & Co became one of the most important cutlery manufacturers in Sheffield and also obtained a Royal Warrant, as well as supplying the Navy. This elegant letter opener has a long elegant letter opener that is symmetrical in shape and carved from mother of pearl, it has a single nibble on the point. The letter opener is fitted to an elegantly carved handle that has a folding quill cutter.
The blade is badly tarnished, I have made no attempt to clean it. The maker mark embossed onto the base of the quill cutter reads. The letter opener and quill cutter is offered in good antique condition, it measures about 13.8cm by 1.6cm. A rare and hard to find collectable piece.
Please see my pictures for the details of the condition.
