Sterling Silver Meat Skewer/Letter Opener by Eley & Fearn- Antique Georgian 1817. This fine antique George III English sterling silver skewer/letter opener has a tapered form with a circular ring loop finger piece. The plain surface of this fine example of Georgian silverware is embellished with a fine and impressive contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting a talbot statant collared and chained. The reverse surface of the skewer is ornamented with the engraved initials'RH' in addition to the featured hallmarks. The original use of this item was purely as a meat skewer.Due to its form, this piece may certainly be used as an effective letter opener.
